Plan a "Staycation" ... Escape From Your Home, But Not Your Hometown

No travel arrangements, no packing, no sitting around airports and on airplanes, and no great length of time to arrive at your get-away destination … this is called a “Staycation”!  Our summer is still hot and beautiful so plan a Staycation … escape from your home, but not your hometown! Now that you don’t have to pack, you have time on your hands and can relax, so let’s delve into some summer fun options right here on the waterfront in Buffalo.

Canalside_-_boats_and_kayaks_gathered_during_concert.jpgVenture into downtown Buffalo to Canalside to take in the sights, boating adventures, a yoga class, concerts and great food that our waterfront has to offer.  Start out with lunch at (716) Food and Sport where the 40-foot long illuminated bar top replicates the ice in a hockey rink.  Enjoy your food while enjoying the sport of the season on one of their 70 HDTVs or the 38-foot video screen. Now get back out in the sun and take a tour through history on a narrated tour of the Buffalo River with Buffalo River History Tours or sail back in time aboard the Spirit of Buffalo offering day and evening sails with various themes.  Take a sailing lesson or enjoy harbor events or fireworks with Make Sail Time Buffalo.  Speaking of boats, you can rent your own Pontoon Boat at Collins Marine and take your own cruise down the Niagara River or along the Erie Canal.  Take a dip in the water to cool off at Grass Island!  If you don’t want to make the effort to be your own captain, then see Buffalo from a sailor’s point of view cruising on the Miss Buffalo.  Discover the ships at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval and Military Park,Naval_Park_from_Trip_Advisor_GREAT.jpg and enjoy great libations and food on the patio next door at Liberty Hound. Add to your fun by trying your luck at the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in the Cobblestone District along downtown Buffalo’s Inner Harbor.  Rent a kayak, paddleboat or bike at Wilkeson Pointe on the Outer Harbor and explore our developing waterfront.  Visit the beach, get your exercise on the walking paths, offer a serve on one of the volleyball courts and take in the views that take your breath away.

Pearl_Street_Grill_-_outside_in_summer.jpgWhile in downtown Buffalo, dining at the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery is a must!  Experience cityscapes and Lake Erie sunsets on their multi-level New Orleans style wrap around patios while enjoying a craft brew.  Oh, about Buffalo’s craft brews … today Buffalo’s craft beer market is thriving and you must stop for a drink and celebrate at a few of our many breweries.  So while downtown, take a tour and try a new craft beer at Big Ditch Brewing Company, transport back to Buffalo’s gilded age at the Pan-American Grill & Brewery, or kick back in the outdoor beer garden at Resurgence Brewing Company or Buffalo RiverWorks.  Beer loving visitors will have much to celebrate – and much to drink.

The Buffalo waterfront with its many attractions, and eating and drinking establishments will give you plenty to do to keep you busy for an amazing Staycation!
